I have a 63 Niagara and I want to purchase a bilge pump. After looking through the iboats store I was totally overwhelmed by all the different choices...manual, electric, submersible etc.... Which one should I get?

Re: Bilge Pump Overload!

In a little boat like our Niagaras, if you need an electric bilge pump, it's already too late!

However, something in the 500gph range would be probably OK, and without a float- I would just put it on a switch and circuit it from your second battery if you have one.

I keep a plastic hand piston/tube pump that a friend gave me which I have used to get rid of rain; runoff from dripping wet kids who climb in, jump off, climb in, jump off...; and the occasional water over the transom. With all the air in the underdeck space, you can have A LOT of water in the boat and not even come close to sinking. Ahem. I have proven this! (don't ask :))

I forgot and left the plug out of that under deck space one day, almost sunk the boat, water was shooting straight up like the old faithfull from a hole in the deck where I guess used to be a battery tray screwed down, also there was couple seat base mounting holes that were breeched. I have all that fixed now and can actually insert the blow nozzle from air compressor and pressurize the under deck space.
Funny thing was there were 3 people sitting in the boat at the dock when this happened, 2 gals 1 guy, I came back from parking the truck and they were still sitting in the boat, they said hey Ed is this water supposed to be comming in like this?

LOL Thanks for the good laugh this AM - I needed it.

BTW: I have filled my underdeck twice now... I left Lake Eden after loading my unusually heavy boat and when I made a left at the blinking light in Hyde Park (about ten miles) it was still spewing lake water! All my deck holes are sealed up and the boat had been in the water for three days, so it was full! I figured it out when on the way to the ramp from the dock it wouldn't plane:redface:
