I'm trying to take off the lower on my motor, I've got it in reverse, all bolts out, and the lower drops down like 1.5" but thats is?? What gives, anything I'm missing.

Have you disconnected the shift rod?

How do you disconnect it? I thought it just slides into something up top? At least that's how it was on a smaller outboard I did, I thought you just put it in reverse?

Your other motor must have been a merc or mariner....

The shift lever is disconnected under the lower carb. On the starboard side centered under the lower carb you will see a lever with a 7/16" bolt head. Remove the bolt and the shift shaft is free......

cheers :)

I'm not familiar with your particular motor, but there are generally two places that shift rods are disconnected. One is inside the motor cover, where the shift rod is connected to the shift cable or rod coming in from the front of the motor ... or, inside the exhaust housing, generally accessible from the opening you've already got, or behind a plate or screen on the side of the exhaust housing.

Someone else may be able to give specific instructions for your motor. I assume you must not have a service manual?

Thanks, what do I have to pull off to get at it? just the carb cover? Hopefully I don't have to pull off the carbs?

Arn't those hydrofoil fins supposed to be bolted forward on the leg? Not all the way back.

You don't have to remove anything. Peek under the lower carb from the starboard side. You'll see it. You'll need a socket and an extender.

I must be missing it, cant see it, there are hoses galore in the way. I'll look again. The only bolt I see is looking from the left side there is a bolt that run verticle which in no way I can get off, don't see one that comes in from the side.

Ok, thanks guys. I got it off, yes that little 10mm head bolt for the shifter hiding behind some hoses, kinda a pain to get off. Anyway, I got the leg off, now just need the pump.

Thanks again.
