20 horse johnson 1986 - is my carb junk?

I took the carb off my outboard and removed the bowl. when I turned the carb over a brass tube fell out. The other half is installed inside the main jet. I noticed the tube is pressed tightly against the main jet inside the air passage of the carb. Does this happen often? is my carb junk?

From your description I am not sure which tube fell out. However if a tube falls out that is a big no no.
Try to find a good replacement carb. Try Ebay.

sorry, I will try to be more clear. there is the main jet and a smaller brass tube inside of this. this tube goes from the bottom of the jet in the bowl up through the venturi part of the carb and is pressed into the top of the body of the carb. this tube broke about half way up in the main jet and only half fell out. sorry if this description still sucks.

I think you are in the market for a new carb body. Check salvage yards or, as suggested, E_BAY.

that is not the main jet, that is the pick up tube. you need a new top half the carb.

Bring it over if you want to. You must drive fast. One of our plants is in Chatham and it takes me 45 minutes !!!

all that will do is cause more problems. the jets are wrong, for your motor.
