97 Mercruiser 4.3lx fuel pump

I just purchased a 97 Rinker with a Mercruiser 4.3lx. I have read many of the posts and threads concerning the electronic fuel pump and have tried everything with no luck. This is what we have done.

Fuel pump not working during normal start procedures.

Starter puts out 12 volts to the pump during cranking.

Jumped the oil pressure switch but pump does not operate, 10 to 12 volts at the cap on the pump while jumped.

Pump operates, primes and shuts off when jumped straight from the battery.

At a loss here and any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a bad/corroded ground in the wiring. When you check the + feed to the pump use a headlight to draw some current.Reading voltage means nothing without currect flow.
Can also use a jumper to a good ground at the - pump side.

I forgot to mention that we jumped from the batteries positive terminal to the jumper around the oil pressure switch and the fuel pump worked great.
