Please help us find info on an old trolling motor.

Please help us find info on an old trolling motor. It came with a boat a friend purchased. From a glance, we wonder how it?s cooled since it does not appear to be air cooled. I'm wondering if this is like one that was mentioned in a post. The propeller forces water up a tube? I see 2 tubes close to the propeller (attached). The larger open tube, I felt could be the exhaust and the other is not open. There is a short tube closer to the engine that could have something missing from it. Can anyone provide links that will have info on this motor or personal info, if you recognize it? The best we could tell, a tag appears to say this is a Sea King (model # 64EA-90024, Serial # 381-02640).

Thank You in advance for any help.

The sea king was made by chrysler in the early years , if you pull it up on the net or goggle seaking you will get some info , and some one here should be able to help you

Give a shout to David at the chrysler marine website. Just google "the chrysler crew". No one knows those old ones like he does and he can probably fix you up with the original service manual.

Good luck!

That's a 1946 Gale 1.5 hp Sea King, made for Mont. Wards. Reverse the first two numbers to get the year, first two letters are probably GG rather than EA. 16:1 fuel/oil mix was recommended. It is water cooled. Nice find.

Thanks for all the current help. This is interesting so far (the year, fuel ratio builder and distributor). The cooling method is still a question, which could be that short tube with something missing. This monster is old as I am. The 1968 center console Starcraft with a 40 HP Evin. it was on is interesting. The rig was last registered in 1989, garaged since then and should be a good project. Any guesses on the rig's cost and value as is??

Thanks Again!

The small tube is a water supply to the powerhead. There may be a water pickup that picks up prop wash or maybe a pump under the prop.,

Re: Please help us find info on an old trolling motor.

I was able to clean and see the ID plate better. Are the Ward's model # 64EA-90024, Serial # 381-02540 (attached) a cross-over to Gale/Sea King #'s or is there a conflict? We feel we are feeling compression and fire was reported by the past owner. We have a ways to go w/o causing any damages that d/n exist, "But it's pure fund".

Thanks for all the help and please continue!

Hi wickware,
Look in the Sea King forum of three or four days ago and you`ll find a Vern H post about your motor. The Gurus had some good info on your motor. They had a breakdown of the serial and model nos. It was made by Evirude. The one I have still has the factory decals and is called out as a 1hp. It looks to me in your pics that the throttle lever is installed wrong. It should be pointing forward over the tank.
Nice find! Hope it runs as well as mine. VH

Wickware, the post is on this forum. Scroll down from your post. Good luck. VH

Re: Please help us find info on an old trolling motor.

Thanks! Vern H,
Did you post a picture of your motor? I would like to see the tube related to it being water cooled. Or, do you have a link to a picture showing the tube? Is there a pump on the tube or is the water forced up the tube and exits where?? WW

Wickware,
No luck with the pics.Being a puter novice I can`t figure it out. Give me a call at 602-819-0567 or post an email address and I can send them that way.
Re: water pump: I Think I am seeing a piston pump housing above the prop. (horizontal). The intake is the brass nut above the prop, The small tube takes water to the block, discharge is thru the down pointing tube at the rear of the block. VH

Re: Please help us find info on an old trolling motor.

Vern H, Thanks for trying to send the Pics. I had my problems and learned two requirements before I got consistent with sending attachments.

1. Your computer must allow cookies (under Tools, Internet Opt) or hold Alt.
2. Max size of the attachment (79 KB ?) or it will tell you or it will not accept.

I'll try sending you a private message to give more attachment tips. JOW

Re: Please help us find info on an old trolling motor.

Good follow-up info shared and learned and more Pics of a Sea King "Monster".

Re: water pump. Above the prop there is a hex nut with holes/screen in it. That is the intake. Right above that is a round horizontal part of the casting a couple inches long. The small tube kind of plugs into the other end through the casting. I`m sure that is the housing of a piston type pump actuated by an eccentric on the vertical shaft. It will have a coil spring that returns the piston and a check valve of some sort. This system was used on earlier outboards. I haven`t taken this one apart but I`m sure thats what it is. If it was the type where the prop wash provided the water flow there would be a forward facing scoop. The pump body is the round part of the casting connected to the cavitation plate, (below it) and the supply tube connects to center of the top of it.

Thanks! To Vern H for all the help and info on the Sea King "Monster". JOW
