Here I am , building a list of goodies to order (after I take care of a big over-due utility tomorrow) . So i check my checking acount and see it's nearly wiped out ----looks like the donkeys I've been paying back for my truck repo , decided they would double dip their monthly payment!!!:mad: now I haven't messed up with them since my agreement started , so see no reason to have them take more . I didn't agree to that . Damn I feel robbed . peter

If you are letting these people draw payments directly from your bank account, I would hope that you have a written agreement that details what they may and may not do. Read every line of it and see what it says about withdrawals. If they have violated the agreement, demand that they put the money back. If they don't, see if your bank will rescind the payment and/or terminate the EFT withdrawals.

Check the fine print on your agreement to pay off the loan. Cancel the standing order to them and pay it in cash in the future. What can they do about that ??? It's not like they can repo the truck again.

Happened to me 30 years ago. Nobody has been given permission to draft my checking/savings account since. I don't do that.

Re: Thoroughly CHEEZED OFF

Needed to get "1" payment to a loan company once. I gave them permission to take "1" payment out on a Monday. JUST "1" !!!

I even ask the guy "3" times if he understood that !?!?? His response, "Yes. we do this all the time". I told him that I'd allow this once !!!!! AND ONLY ONCE !!!

He took the $ out on Monday, Wed., and Friday !!!!!!! Long story short, I called this butt clown back, chewed him out good. BUT, it took "45 working days" for the finance company to put the $ back in my account.

Haven't allowed it since !!!!!!!!!!!!

That happened with a cell phone provider my son has, he signed up for auto pay, twice they doubled pulled his payment and would not return the money back all they would do was you get no bill next month, it happened again, He filed a unauthorized transaction complaint with his nationally known bank and they were able to get both payments back in to his account in less than a week.

Both my wife and I have many years under our belts in banking and this is exactly the method to use. The bank also keeps a tally of the number of times they have to do this for customers and will refuse to allow auto payments from a company after so many unauthorized withdrawals. If you want the company to get a real wrist slapping, use this method. As a side effect, you will also get your money back in short order, sometimes instantly while they investigate. If the determine it was allowed, they will suck it back out, but at least you will have it in the mean time while you rethink allowing that company access to your money.

How I get around the risk of auto-payments is to have a separate account used just for paying bills, which once a month gets funded with the exact amount of money (usually $1K extra as a buffer, just in case) to cover monthly bills. All bills are sent using that account, so if anyone reverses my account info, tries to double-dip, or steals my identity, they will be limited to one month's bills and not my savings.

Re: Thoroughly CHEEZED OFF

It's taken 4 hours to square off this mess and supposedly get a credit ; as soon as it's back in , I'm closing the door on ' em . My C.U. is backing me on the debit transactions I made . Just gotta walk a thinline till it reappears .
Now I gotta do some deep breathing to clear the blood from my eyes:mad:

.... have a separate account used just for paying bills, which once a month gets funded with the exact amount of money ....

Although I don't allow auto withdrawal for anything, this is what I do. I have a "billpay" account, which I fund monthly and then pay all of my bills. I write one check a month, only because I can't pay that bill electronically - everything else is paid via a debit card transaction. Once the bills are paid, I leave no more than about $50.00 in the account until the first of the next month.

All of my banking and money management is done online, so I can keep track of everything on a daily basis. I know what my investments and bank balances are doing at all times.

As far as I am concerned, about the worst thing you can do with a vendor or creditor, is to give them access to your account. To me, this is a "just say no" item.
