Hi I Just Bought A 1987 Welcraft 19 Ft Cuddy. It Has A 165 Mercury In Out Board Motor. I Let It Warm Up A Bit , But When I Put It In Gear Fwd It Stall, And Same Reverse, ( Do It Slow It Stalls, Sometimes Shift Fast It Dont Stall, Dose It When Its Warm Also.what Can I Adjust Etc To Fix This( Only Have 1 Boat Repair Guya Nd He Booked Till End Nov. Also Boat Pulls Bad To Left, Tryed To Adjust Fin On Bottom , But Can Seem To Find The Right Wrench ( Size) To Unlock It So I Can Put It More Right

when mine did the same to me all i had to do was rebuild the carb. don't know if your situation is the same but that fixed mine

check the shift cut out switch, it might need adjusting or replacing. you should shift swiftly to be nice to the clutch dogs in the lower gearcase.

Ayuh,... My 1st Guess would be,...
You need a New lower shift cable...

Do shift & throttle cables plus shift interruptor switch. The latter momentarily kills the ignition so as to take torque off the outdrive while shifting. Normally it happens so fast you don't notice. The former likely needs dooing and will make life more pleasant in general. Shouldn't cost too much (I think my job was less than $400?). Cost of boating my friend.

BTW, don't shift "slowly". You'll trash your drive. Give it an authoritative jab into gear both fwd and reverse.
