I was given the 5hp Nissan NS5B motor...it looks brand new but hasn't been run for a number of yrs. The metal gas tank is shot but a new plastic tank with the correct fittings are way more than I want to spend for a motor that I am not sure runs. Any body have a used gas tank or can suggest a substitution.....any ideas would be appreciated...... thanks

The metal tanks have been obsolete for quite a while; The plastic ones last a bunch longer. I may have a used plastic one from a blown up motor that I'm getting ready to scrap. Will check. Meanwhile, why don't you substitute a different fuel reservoir -- from a different motor or lawn mower or whatever -- to test the motor?

If the metal tank only has a few minor rust holes, it may possibly be repaired by using the coating that is used for antique car tanks. The coating isn't cheap, however.

If you have another fuel tank you could splice the fuel line in the middle so that you have the correct fittings on each end. Or as pvanv suggested, just take the tank fitting off the line and clamp the line to any other fuel tank for test purposes.
I once tested a V8 engine by clamping a boat tank fuel line to the carb.

Walmart has about a 6 gallon red plastic tank with fittings, ready to go. Not very expensive and a whole lot cheaper/better than water/rust contaminated fuel. Good Luck!
