Hi everyone. I just picked up a 1976 Nova. It has a 235HP OMC 351W engine. I am brand new to this type of boat. All my previous experience was on 16 foot v-hull fishing type boats. I intend to clean it up a little, maybe make a few modifications or updates or add a few things, and use it as a samon fishing boat on Lake Michigan. I am wondering if anyone can give me any specs on it or help me find them or even get me a lead on where to find a manual. According to the Wellcraft website there aren't any dealers in my area, or I'd stop at one. I was hoping to get advice on a couple things.
1) Previous owner stated gas in tank is at least a year and a half old. He said it might be about half full (I'm not sure how big the tank is- I'm looking for specs as noted above) He said the gas was treated, but I don't know whether to trust it. Would it harm anything to run that gas? If so, how and where would I go about draining the gas tank?
2) If I wanted to change the oil, how difficult would that be? I have always changed oil in my vehicles, but never in a boat like this. I can't seem to see a drain plug. I found the filter easily enough. Can anyone speak from experience on how easy or difficult it would be and how I'd go about it? Or am I better off just taking it in to a marina somewhere and having them do it?
3) There is no rear water drain plug on the boat. Can anyone tell me if this would be easy to find? Do I need a specific plug or are there generic ones that will work. I can't tell if the threads in the hole are screw in threads or if it's just ribbing.
If anyone has any general knowledge, experience, tips, advice, how-to's, etc... I am all ears. Thanks so much for any advice or assistance you can provide.
