I'm looking to replace a blown 1984 115hp I6 that I have on my 17' sea nymph. I found a good running motor (same year/horse) on a 1981, 19' starcraft that has a bad transom, pretty worthless trailer and really nothing else worth any value other than the motor (which is all I'm interested in anyway)...the price he's asking iis $650b/o. I'm going to hear the motor run in a day or 2, and while I;m there I plan to test compression.

Do you think it's worth it?
I'm thinking it's more in the ballpark of like $450'ish??

Its worth it I think if everything is checked, Leaking gas fron the carbs,or old dry gas lines will cost to fix and be sure the foot is solid and shifts and isnt full of water which means the lower end seals are bad, For 650 you shouldnt see any of these issues. This engine needs to be sea worthy for that price.

My other question is...
If both motors have identical transom brackets, is it just as easy to unbolt the motor from the transom bracket and remove the outboard that way vs. removing the entire assembly off the transom?
