I took the lower end off and noticed blades curved I took it to a repair shop and he said clean off the black marks after doing that I noticed a groove on the bottom plate and on the top of the housing should I be concerned or put it back together? The guy at the shop did not notice the grooves I guess or maybe he was in a hurry to go eat lunch
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Like they said you can probably get by till next year but why not just do it now while you have the unit off. I just had to check mine and it also had grooves on the plate too. I went ahead and ordered it for about $6.00 bucks. Six bucks for peace of mind. Just my two cents...

What about the housing is it supposed to be smooth or grooves in it as well

You haven't said what year 75 you are working on. Is the housing aluminum or plastic with stainless steel liners? Whatever it is, the grooves are wear. Now it becomes a matter of how much wear. Deep wear should be replaced. Scratch wear is ok.

If it is an aluminum housing, you should buy a complete water pump kit. It will update it to the plastic/stainless version. A great big improvement.

However, if it is an old V4-75 you are pretty much stuck with the aluminum housing. See what I mean? We need the year or model #.

You mentioned cleaning off the black rubber. That sounds like somebody ran it dry. Never do that, even for a few seconds.

It is an 85 model I have to figure out how to down size my photos so I can post it is a plastic with sleeve and the grooves are about 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep on one side of the plate and all around the middle of the housing. I will get the kit. I wish the guy would have sold me the whole thing instead of just the impeller. Oh well!

Since you already have bought an impeller, you can just get the stainless plates and liner, you know.

if you plan on keeping the boat, compre the prices of a kit vs parts u need,it may be a small amt ,so you have a spare impeller for next change

get a spark tester from an auto parts store and a compression gauge. set the spark tester to 7/16" gap and remove all of your plugs and test each wire. then do a compression test.
