1977 Evinrude 25 Horsepower Outboard

Ok so I have been having a problem my 25 hp evinrude will idle all day long but yet when I put it in drive and give it gas it dies right out unless you pull the choke out then it runs halfway decent and eventually starts to struggle to....I have been messing with it here and there since last year but I really want to get it running because it is the only boat I have......I rebuilt the carb...no help.....checked the reed valve and it is fine....maybe discovered the problem today a fuel line pretty badly chewed up but not all the way through.....I am pretty sure it is a fuel problem and sucking air somewhere...any help would be great

The symptoms are classic for a dirty high speed orifice plug in the carburetor. When you rebuilt it, did you check the orifice plug? It must be absolutely clean with not even a trace of any dirt, gum, or varnish. And don't be jamming wires and drills through it either. It is a precision part.

yesh it was checked thoroughly I myself didnt rebuild it because I hardly have time to even mess with the thing from workin all the time but the guy who got me the parts is really good on working on boats and everything else he tore it completley apart.....he has even looked at the boat and said he didnt know what the problem was
