Odd problem

I just purchased a 30 hp Yamaha made Mariner. The motor runs and starts pretty well. When I first start it up it will not wind up completly. I think it is only about 3000 rpms. If I run it wide open for about 5-10 minutes it will open up and run at twice the speed. I also found that the bulb will be pulled in. Not like an air void in the bulb. It is still tight, just compressed. If I start to pump it the engine rpms start tapering off and it will run at around 3000 again. Any ideas?

Re: Odd problem

Sounds like the engine is starving for gas. The collapsed bulb indicates it is trying to suck gas but the line seems to be plugged. Possibly dirt in the tank.

Re: Odd problem

Just keep running the heck out of it when it's starving for gas. Burnt pistons are easier to find and fix than dirty fuel systems.

hope it helps
