I know this may seem like a silly question and I'm 90% sure I know the answer is no. I'm only asking since I figure even if I don't get the answer I want, I may still get some creative approaches to what I'd like to do.
My question is, is there a way for a civilian to take down the registration number on a boat, and track down who the owners are? I know the fish commission could find out, but I doubt they release the information. So can a person find out themselves?
Here's why I ask, and where the creative approach comes into play. I figure at least a few of you have been in the same situation. So there's a boat that's been sitting, and I'd love to make the owner an offer on it. But I don't know who the owner is. I know what you're thinking, just go knock on the door of the property it sits on. Not going to work here. The boat is sitting in a large industrial complex that houses several large buildings. I assume one of the employees there has been given permission to store his boat there. So it's not like I can just walk up and beat on the warehouse door. So how do I find out who owns this poor neglected boat that's just been sitting? I'm like the humane society for neglected boats and motorcycles. When I see one being neglected, I just have to take it in and care for it...
My wife is thrilled.... (no honey, you still won't be able to park in the garage this winter. But I got you a really nice new ice scraper.)
