I have a glastron Boat 72 i belive it has a 270 volvo outdrive and a 302 engine. My starter started turning over slower and slower then quit i noticed that there was some water dripping from it. Removed starter and replaced it loosened flywheel cover and drained water. (let girlfriends brother barrow boat he forgot to put plug in and flooded engine compartment just over starter so figured that was the reason for water) So i replaced the started and took out on the lake and there was water dripping from starter again and now wont turn over got the starter warrantied but does anyone have any ideas where the water could be coming from. Bellows hoses look good. Should i pull the transom and outdrive and check them?
Thanks

My guess is one of the core plugs, (freeze out plugs) is leaking.....
They are located behind the flywheel....:(

U-joint bellow leak can fill the bellhousing right up to the starter, not sure on Volvo but Cobra housings have a drain nipple with attached drain hose off the very bottom of the housing, if it's plugged then the water will fill right up the starter, marine starters have a little drain hole in the nose adapter for this very reason, you need to pull the drive to determine whats going on.

Pull the bellows loose from the upper gear box and see if there is water in the bellows. If dry, time to pull the engine and look at the core plugs as Haut suggested.
Did you drain the flywheel cover after the plug was left out? if not the flywheel would push water right into the starter.

Thats it! there was probably still water in the flywheel housing and the flywheel is whipping it up right into the starter housing.

water came in after i drained the flywheel cover. so probably looking at pulling the engine to look at the frost plugs. is there anything else i should do while i have it out maint. wise engine runs great otherwise. is it easier to pull the engine or the transom / outdrive. Engine oil is fine no sign of water in there

Put it this way, it's easier to remove the engine with the outdrive off, in fact I'm not sure it can even be done without pulling the drive.
