Ok , So Its Been A While Since Ive Been On Here , But I Think I Might Have Found A Smaller , Easier Project To Work On This Winter. Guy Contacted Me About A Week Ago , And Ive Been Thinking It Over. He Says Its A 12 Ft Sears , Unknown Model About 20 Years Old. Ive Tried Looking It Up , But Can't Find Out Any Information On It? He Says That It Has A Little Damage In Some Places And That Someone Tried To Fix It In The Past , But He Doesnt Think They Did It Right. Would This Be A Good Project To Get Started On , Or Am I Just Going To End Up Sinking A Lot Of Money Into It. I Figured , At Least Its Fiberglass , So It Should Be A Little Easier To Deal With Than Metal? Open To All Opinions!

Yes I have used one on an old jon boat. Ha! They are loud and VIBRATE. But it ran fine. Air cooled.

Good luck.

I wouldn't put more than a 10 hp on a 12-foot anything. Speed is relative and subjective, depending on the type of boat.
Note: All CAPS is same as shouting online, Capitalizing First Letter Of Each And Every Word creates Eyestrain...hard to read. Easy to read = more, better answers.

Sorry , On My Work Computer , Keys Are Set For Caps Only. Dunno Why , Just Are!

Do You Think That The 5 Horse Briggs And Stratton Would Handle It? I Havent Used One Yet , But From The Videos On Youtube And The Reviews From Everyone , I Think I Might Try It

5hp should do fine. i have 16 1/2 foot vhull fising boat and a 50 lb thrust trolling motor pushes it around. not gonna ski behind it but it gets you from point a to point b

Re: Possible New Project

okay , so i found a better picture of the model that it is. i found out that it is a sears 12ft v bottom gamefisher. im posting a picture of what it basically is now, and then the other is just a quick microsoft paint picture of what im looking to do to it. does anyone see any flaws with what im thinking? is this going to be a sound structure with the way that i layed it out?

plus , im thinking about putting another seat on top of the gas and electrical instead of a hinged access door at the rear of the boat. maybe just a round post mount and then use a really chopped down short seat post so it only sits about 2 or 3 inches off of the top of the box

Re: Possible New Project

That looks do-able, since it isn't a real sharp or deep V-hull. Still might be dicey walking on the front deck, since it is a 12-footer...but short pedestal seats would probably work okay for average-sized boaters/fishermen. Five hp might be marginal if you pack in a heavy load of gear, beverages and fishing buds.
