1976 Evinrude 25hp... What first?

So I finally found myself a 25 hp long shaft. The guy started it for me, but only for a few seconds because we had no water hooked up.

Is there anything I should know about this motor? Any common problems to check on?

Where can I get a water impeller for this one?

Impellers are available here on Iboat (along with seal kits). Check coils, if they look cracked or chalky, replace them. Change the LU oil and see if it is milky or has water in it. If it does, a seal kit is in order. Get a good OEM manual, it will serve you well. Rick

breaker points,condenser,waterpump impeller are general maint.parts,usually a once a yr change along with gear oil in lowerunit,if done at a shop,that usually includes sparl compression and many will do a pressure check on lower unit,if your gear oil has any issues like smelly thick tarry consistancy or looks like a milkshake,the gearcase has a leak,its common for ignition coils to eventually go bad,thats the reason for a spark test,with a tester,reliability is only there when general maint is done ,otherewise its a crapshoot as to when points will burn out,condensor go bad or impeller fall apart
