Just got my new prop and trying to install and not sure if I'm doing it right. I had a composite prop on their previously so I'm not sure how this thing goes on. it fits and rotates well - nothing in the way, but the threads are out too much - do i need additional washers? Its a non thru hub exhaust prop so its a closed end - I was using a thrust washer on the composite but don't think I need it on this. Anyone have photos of theirs they can share?
Thanks in advance.

On your 88, the prop shaft was designed with about 1/4 inch extra length to accomodate a special plastic "Flare Washer" under the regular washer and prop nut. If you do not have this washer there is a special spacer (for about 18-30 bucks) which will fit BUT really, all you need is an aluminum washer or plate with a 7/8 inch hole in it to space out the nut. Can't get that? Buy a couple of galvanized washers from Home Depot and use them. Stainless is best but galvanized will work as long as you keep them well greased to prevent corrosion.

You are installing the thrust washer behind the prop, aren't you? If you do not, under load, the prop will ride down the shaft and wear the gearcase casting.

If you want a couple of photos, send me your email address in a private massage.
