454 Magnum Starter Motor/Alternator Wiring Question

Hi Guys,

Im sure this is an easy one, hopefully someone can help.

I have just aquuired a boat with a 92 model 7.4L 454 Magnum engine which is not charging at the moment.

I looked at the wiring diagram from the manual, and it seems to me that the red wire from the battery and the orange wire coming from the alternator should be on the same terminal, is this correct?

My starter is wired differently, and I am not sure if that is the cause of my problem, or if I just need a new starter.

Take a look at the pic below and hopefully someone can let me know if all is good or what I need to do.

The wiring in the photo is not correct. The alternator wire (orange) should be on the same terminal as the battery cable. That's how it charges the batteries.
I am curious, does your starter work? If it does, does it turn off after the motor starts?

I think you are going to find you need a new alternator, or that one repaired.
