can it do any harm to my gelcoat to leave wax on it for a few days before buffing it off? just carnuba, nothing fancy. got the boat all waxed up then it started to rain. got it inside but had to get to other things. im hoping to get back to it in a couple days.

Dont know, never left it on that long before.
Id think as long as the sun isnt beating on it, it should be fine.

I would remove old wax and do it again. can't go wrong. make sure you wax the whole underside of boat, that will help you go faster and help keep the green crap off the hull.

It'll be fine. Just a bit harder to buff off.

Don't wash the old wax off, it'll just make a bigger mess. Buff it off.

Wax will not make you go faster either. If you want to get into that debate, the wax forces the boat to re-wet itself, which technically speaking will slow it down (but in any case doesn't matter with powered boats like ours anyway). But the whole point is moot, because the wax will get stripped off in short order on any planing boat anyway as it goes on and off plane.

I read in some yacht magazine that wax gets left on for the entire layup season and then buffed off in the spring. But what the hell do they care, they're paying other people to do it for them!

No it wont hurt anything, but it may be hell buffing it off..apply a new coat over the old if its hard to remove..the new coat will soften the old and it will remove alot better.
