How Much Should a Used Force 120 HP Cost?

I'd like to buy a complete, bad Force 120 HP and take it all apart to gain experience. So if I ever have to work on the good Force on the boat, I'll be a little familiar with it.

NADA lists a used 1997 FORCE 120HP, in good condition, at $600.

The man at the local boat bone yard said he had two bad 120's, complete, $400-$600. Neither engine comes with the trim/lift (not really complete). He ran out of patience when asked the cost of his good Force 120's, and he never answered.

This seems a bit steep. IMO, I could probably find and buy a complete bad rig (boat, motor, trailer) for half that price.

Searching the 'net with slow dial-up, I could not establish a range of prices on these used motors.

Any input, opinions? Thanks.

Try craigslist. I see them in there for cheap all the time. You may have to drive a hundred miles or so to get it but it should be a good price.

A broken force is worth more than a running one because the broken one will be sold part by part and the running one as a whole. The guy you're talking to is probably thinking of how much he could get for the parts.

I paid $85 for a blown 125, it was missing the head for it but I didn't care I was just gonna use it for parts. So $400-600 is steep especially without trim/tilt.

I think my 92 150 was listed on NADA at $400...I suffer from CRS though. Doesnt really matter what they say. Its like everything else. Its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

The area Bayliner dealer quoted me $1,390 for a good used 1997 Force 120 HP today, over the phone. $1,300 for a 1996.

The reed blocks alone cost 100 bucks each and there are 4 of them in that motor. 1300 for one in good shape is pretty fair.

If you want to buy today then you have to pay whatever is being asked today. If you are patient then you can wait for an engine to hit local craiglist for cheap.

I found a 1991 Bayliner 1700 with a non-working Force 90 HP and a good galvanised trailer. $800.00 on Craigs List.

I went and looked at it.

The interior and exterior is covered in mold. The floor is soft. The transom is cracked. The bottom of the hull is all blistered. The upholstry is about the worst I've seen.

This thing is not even a project boat.

I'm going to offer $400 and see what happens.

I took another look at the $800 Bayliner and decided, No.

One thing I didn't catch before was the trailer frame was bent from some kind of accident. It would have to be put on one of those truck frame straighteners to get it right.

I'll sell you mine ! I have the 1990 120 Force that was on my 1990 Bayliner when I inherited it...it sat for ten + yrs and was very difficult to turn over , my guess loads of corrosion inside.... bought a RUNNING 1987 125 Force for $400.00 on Craigs list, I'll keep the carbs and starter and let you have the old one for $400.00 .....lolol

A local Merc mechanic told me not to pay more than $150 for a non-working Force. He use to own one of the largest boat dealerships in the area. He should know.

Besides, I want a complete OB, and I'd have to see it in person first.

I found a 120 HP Force motor.

I'll have to buy a Bayliner, 18' hull and trailer with it. $600.00 negotiable.

Owner claims the motor runs fine, but says upholstery and floor are shot.

I'll be looking at it tomorrow.

If the trailer is serviceable that might not be a bad deal.
