Hey everyone

I've been reading on here for awhile but now I am finally becomming one of you crazy guys that spend more time and money on something that no normal person could understand. I just obtained a 1972 Glastron Gt-160. The exterior is not too bad. The bottom is in good shape the starboard rear corner has taken a hit and was repaired but not very good, the floor is gone and also what I can see of the stringers thru the holes in the floor right now does'nt leave much hope for them. So I'm assumming the transom is wasted too. I have high hopes for this restoration. Not only is this boat a similar model to the one in the James Bond movie "live and let die" but a good friend of mine who died a few years ago had one like it when we were in high school, so a lot of fun memories could be relived if I can get this going again. It is my first time undertaking the structure of a boat but I have learned a lot by reading up on the projects here and I am hoping for your help and encourgement to see this thru. I will get some pictures up soon so you can tell me what you think

Re: Restoring 1972 Glastron GT-160

I'll keep an eye on this thread since I just got a 1971 GT-160. Everyone restores the GT-150s and I haven't found many 160s in pics yet. Yet... ;)

My situation is similar to yours: bad repairs, rotten transom, soft floors, bad stringers, ad nauseum...
I'm letting it sit in the garage a few days to dry so I can use the shop vac to clean some of the gunk out.

Welcome to iboats.

I love Glastron's GT's and CVX's. I was going to buy one myself but the seller never called back so I bought a Checkmate instead. Can't wait to see the boats.

Here are some pics of my project boat

this one doesn't show to well the extent of the spider cracks in the gel coat or the shoddy patch work on the top rear quarter.

also at some point in the boats life somebody decided to give it a clear coat, probably to shine it up a bit, but it is all blistered and peeling so I am looking foward to sanding all that off to.
