Does anyone run NGK spark plugs? Do you notice any better idle and accerlation using NGK over champion plugs? I have noticed on other sites that people say they prefer the NGK's for better idle and the engine seems to run better.

Re: Spark Plugs

Evinrude and Johnson engines are said to be designed around Champion plugs.

I do have a set of NGK plugs for a small engine. I see no difference between them and the Champion set but speed/acceleration is not an issue.

They're designed for Champions, but I've used ngk, autolite with no perceived difference in performance.

Re: Spark Plugs

I have a 98 115 faststrike. I changed out my champion plugs for NGK plugs and found that I was really misfiring to the point that I went back to landing and loaded up. I replaced the NGK's for champs and the engine ran fine....untill a few days ago when the motor just up and quit. Not because of plugs. (see my new post.

Re: Spark Plugs

I ran a set in one of my merc inlines and they were great. Never run them in a JohnnyRude. With Champion's being as cheap as they are I've never thought about anything else. Selecting the proper Champion when multiples are specified? That's another ball of wax.

Re: Spark Plugs

I have NGK B6S in my 1972 20HP. Runs like a champ. Idles great and runs fast.

I've sold car parts for 30 years and have, for the most part, run almost everythig with a gas engine on Autolite plugs. I beleive that engines are stupid- They don't know what brand of spark plug is screwed into them. As long as they are of the right heat range, any plug will perform. Trick is to stay with the spark plug recommended by the plug manufacturer. Don't trust interchange charts. Several years back, Champion revised thier heat ranges, so a J6 plug of today is not the same as a J6 of 20 years ago.
