Hello forum. I have an older Volvo Penta aq125b. I am re-installing some of the components. I cleaned the fuel pump up pretty good. Is there any thing I could do to check it before I mount it back on engine?

Re: fuel pump Volvo penta

Here is a bare bones mechanical test: You should be able to move the lever by resting it against the side of a heavy work bench and leaning/pushing on the pump housing, and have one of your fingers held over the inlet as the lever moves. You should be able to feel a lot of vacuum, and it should keep your finger pinned even after the lever has returned. If you have a vacuum gauge use it instead of a finger. You can check the outlet side this way too, it should push a lot of air past your finger. If you can hold a finger against the pressure side then the pump is weak. If it can't keep your finger sucked to the vacuum side then that indicates weakness also. (Do the inlet and outlet tests separately).
