I need to replace two 1994 OMC Cobra 5.0 which are No Good, I prefer not to remove the Transom Assy or replace with one that requires no modification. Can anyone recommend an alternative drive??
The engines are OMC's(fords) 5.0l
Thank you

Which OMC drive do you have? 1994 was the cut off year between the older Cobra and the newer SX Cobra which was a Volvo joint venture.

Where is you raw water pump located?

The pump is located on the actual engine with is own pulley.

So...you have the newer Cobra SX drive which is basically the Volvo SX drive.

What happened to your drives?

Re: Replacing 94 OMC Cobra 5.0 Drive

I will probably just rebuild the engines, but it all depend if I can find a suitable solution for the drives, Like I mentioned on my first post I would prefer not to change the transon assy or at least find something thats doesn't require major transon modification but a solution that can be used with the existing engines. You mentioned that I probably have Volvo SX drives, so would I be able to replace them with volvo SX (and what years are compatible) or do they have to be OMC ones. this is were I'm abit confused.
Thanks a bunch!

Ayuh,.... By then, All the transom holes are the Same.... Merc. Volvo,+ OMC...

Fords are pretty much Has Beens in the marine field....Nobodies building 'em anymore....

You may be able to replace both your drives with new SEI drives (with adapters) for nearly the same price it'll be to rebuild 1 OMC SX.

You should determine the availability of exhaust manifolds and risers before you rebuild your Ford V-8s though.....exhaust, injection and electronic ignition parts for early 90's OMC stuff is becoming increasingly harder and more expensive to find.....

Rick

But then that'll mean you can buy 3 SEI's for the price on one Volvo right?

Naw,... We're talkin' Volvos,.. Probably 4 or 5....

You could get at least six SEI drives for the cost of one Volvo, too bad the SEI conversion kit does not fit this drive.
