Firts off the boat is a homemade ply wood duck boat only taping the seams then a thin layer of resin on boat to seal and epoxy paint on bottom. 4 inch tape and its about 9 oz boat is 12 ft long medium hardener

How warm does it have to be ??

Should i coat the seams first and let the resin soak in and get tack free?? Then apply the tape ??

How should i wet the tape out?? Should i lay it and wet it out in place? Or could i take the section of glass tape and wet it out on a work table ?

Are multiple layers of glass needed or just one ?

How should i glass corners like the edge of the boat ? one peice or shold i do the bottom first then lap over with the top? or vice versa ??

Re: questions about epoxy resin application

1. Over 60F is good, it can be done at cooler temps, but longer cure times and lower physical properties be the result. Heating the area with heat lamps works well, just keep them back, you don't want to cook the layup.

2. All surfaces to be glassed should be pre coated with epoxy, multiple coats may be needed on some wood or it may suck resin out of the glass before it hardens.

3. Either way, doesn't make a big difference in the final product.

4. You may need more than one layer of glass in some areas, hard to tell without looking at it though.

5. It depends on the corner, normally you need to cut the glass at the corners to get it to lay down. Overlaps are good on corners, but don't over do it.

Check the manufacturers directions- Usually it is going to be about 60 degrees or so. You CAN use it in colder temps, but beware it will take a long time to cure!

I find it easiest to brush a coat on the seams, then lay the tape, then brush more resin on the tape to wet it out.

I do it right on the seam- It's cleanest

You'll probably be OK with only one.

As already mentioned, it'll depend on the corner- If they are too sharp, it'll be tough to get it with one pice of tape without cutting it a bit to conform to the curves.

Re: questions about epoxy resin application

It depends on how long you wait and the epoxy.

Some epoxies will blush and have a residue on the surface after they cure, this needs to be washed off and the surface lightly sanded, others are marketed as non blushing.

If you put the next layer on before the prior one is cured then nothing needs to be done.

Re: questions about epoxy resin application

I just finished putting a sealer coat of epoxy on my decking. Used MAS brand. They have a great web site with videos of applying their product. You might look at them for guidance.
