Has the oil injection been removed/disabled? The green wire is for the oil warning module and attaches to tha no. 2 clyinder terminal (also a green wire going to the coil) on the outer switch box. If you trace the green in question, it should go to a module that has several more wires that all have to do with the oil injection, rotation sensor and oil tak cap. The purple is power to the module. Your right about the idle stabilizer if its still there! Its wht/blk and red/wht. They go to tha same colors on the outer switch box.
Hope I didn't just confuse you more...........D

Re: 1990 mercury 135 black max idle stabilizer wireing

1. If the engine is in decent tune, the idle stabilizer is not needed.
2. The idle stabilizer is expensive.
3. If the idle stabilizer fails shorted to ground, the timing advances, (now re-define expensive)

For these reasons, many or most of them have been discarded, for good reason.

The Idle stabilizer is mounted on top and has red/w (charge), black/w (bias), and black (ground) wires

The oil alert module is mounted on the port side and has a green or green/w wire going to a coil terminal, a power wire, a ground wire, and multiple wires going to sensors.

hope it helps

thanks all, i have now followed the wires through and found that the green wire does come from the oil module the idle stabalizer r/w wire has for some reason been joined to the red point on the rectifier could there be a reason for this?

A '90 model should have the water cooled regulator/rectifier on the back of the motor, under the coil plate. Is this what you're refering too? Wires from this go to a term block right above it..........

On a motor of that age get rid of the idle stabilizer, oil module and il injection system and pre-mix your fuel.

Jeff is absolutly right. I just saw your other post about not having any fire. Now I see the whole story on your motor. Give the stab. and oil inj. system the "float" test. Get a Merc manual, which will have the diagram in it. If your going to work on it yourself your going to need it. May not just be the wiring thats screwed up.......D

Why do you have 2 threads on the same problem?

It's confusing, and wastes the time of those who are trying to help you.
