Hi! New to forum and boating in general. Have a '89 Wellcraft with same year Evinrude 120HP VRO V4. Will like to change the water pump. Have a copy of the SELOC manual for this engine, but have a couple of questions. The manual mentions two wires on the port side of the engine that need to be disconnected. Can anyone help me identify these wires?
Easier to remove the lower cowling than carbs to get to shift rod?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Water Pump Replacement

Wires ????? sounds like another seloc "guess what to do next" project. Do they mean to disconnect the starter so you don't accidentally crank the motor while the work is being done ?? If so then disconnecting the battery is just as good.
It is possible to get the linkeage with a 1/4" drive socket, knuckle joint and extensions. Tricky but possible. If you have not cleaned your carb's recently though I would give them a re-build and go in the easy way.

Welcome to iboats

Re: Water Pump Replacement

Here are some photos of going in with the socket. If using this method then when replacing the bolt in the linkage put some teflon tape around the head of the bolt to hold it in the socket.

Re: Water Pump Replacement

SELOC refers to some wires that run down to the lower unit, so they suggest disconnecting the wires at the top, attached a 5' lead to the wire going to the lower unit so when the lower unit is put back you have a lead running thru the exhaust housing that can be pulled back and re-attach the so called blue and green wires.
Thanks for the advise and pictures. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Are you in the correct section of the manual ???
You could be in the electric shift section.
