Mercruiser Throttle control won't go into neutral

Hi I have a 1986 Sun Runner cabin cruiser inline 6 with a Alpha drive. The other day I removed the throttle control. When I reinstalled the throttle the control. The handle will no longer pull out to give throttle only without putting the boat in gear. I took the control apart which I think was a mistake. At this point I think I should just by a new control. How do I know which model control will fit my cables. The cables slide on a pin and have a cotter pin holding in place. Thanks

With the price of control boxes you may be better off taking to a shop for the half hour to 45 min it would take them to fix your box.

They can be tricky. If something moved when you had the handle off you probably just didnt get it back on right.

...And if you do decide to replace it, a new controller almost always comes with the hardware to fit most cables.
