My ?94 Johnson 175 cuts out under load and at higher rpm. Just stops dead, often comes right back on but keeps repeating. Sometimes it will not restart for several minutes. For now, I try to keep the rpm right about 2100 and doesn?t seem to cut out most of the time.

Have been using gas station gas with ethanol until recently and had to replace my fuel pump and most of the caskets in my fuel system. The problem predated the repair and continued afterwards. I?ve replace the ?rubber? fuel lines, the bulb, and my inline fuel filter. I have a gas-water separator as well.

The cut out is like water is in the system or the electrical completely shuts down. It is instantaneous when it happens.

Makes fishing outside the reef and night fishing an unnerving gamble.

Any ideas?

Maybe a lean running condition. Junk in the carb from the ethenal eating the rubber.
Thats all that comes to my mind.
Others may have a different idea.

Pull a fuel sample after the separator and let it set for 15 minutes, then look at it. Any water settle to the bottom?

Clean your tank and replace the separator filter.

Good ideas. I've seen little bits of black stuff in the fuel-water seperator and when ever it happens I drain the seperater (mostly cause I don't know what else to do and it seems to help). I'll check both issues. Is there a way to clean the tank without removing it from under the deck?

Hopefully you don't have it FULL of fuel right now.

If you can get to the fuel sending uniit, block the trailer so that the fuel sender side or rear of the tank is the lower side. Let it sit still for a day to settle. Remove the sender, be VERY CAREFUL, fuel fumes willlllll be present, NO SMOKING< etc., screw a large nut over a hose to weight it down, cut a small notch in the end of the hose so that it cannot suck itself tight against the bottom. Pump or siphon out fuel until clean and clear.
