Where to start? Is this worth the aggravation?

I searched for a HIN but couldn't find that or any other documentation for that matter. I would like to know what year this boat is, what engines were OEM and anything else anyone can provide that might make this an easier task!

Last registration was: NJ-5815-AK

My uncle bought this wheel chock of a boat on a whim and wants me to "make it work". It's a Sports Cruiser 26 w/Flybridge?

He said it needed new engines, but when I went to look at it????Well see for yourself!

So it's sans engines. These look like Chevy bell-housings to me. I assume this had twin straight 6's in it?

The transmissions have the serials; 5770924 & 5641668.

What will bolt up to these? Any chance of finding fully dressed used motors for this thing?

Here are some more pics for your entertainment:

Is this a patch?:

Also the top of the cabin (Floor of fly bridge) is quite soft in some spots. Thanks in advance for any help/info/jokes that anyone can provide!

IMO, it would cost a small fortune and a tone of time to restore.

It certainly appears to be a patch below the waterline. Wonder was she holed?

The motor mounts appear to be solid, did you notice any other rot in the bilge?

I like her! I'd bet the engines were the mercruiser straight 6's. You can find those around. People like to repower with the 4.3s, so you might consider that.

When finished, you could have a nice $20k - $25k boat depending on the power.

Good luck.

So if I get a chance tomorrow I'll take a closer look at this thing. I'll be sure to take my camera too. I really didn't have time or tools to really investigate much last visit.

Could the patch on the bottom be a stringer replacement? Anyway I'll try to get a good look and some photos if I can find it on the inside.

Until then I've been trying to source a couple straight 6's as I feel this will be the least labor intensive way to go.

I'm still not sure exactly what year this is and there is no paperwork that I know of. The Stamas website is pretty much useless. Any thoughts? It'll probably be easier to find parts and information if I know the exact year.

More information!

More information!

Shipped with Twin 155 Chrysler Slant 6?s.

Information obtained directly from Stamas:

Refitted early 1980?s with Twin M.I.E. 470?s with Velvet Drive Transmissions and Walker
V-Drives.

Port Engine Serial No. : 05641688 ? L Dated : August 1982
Starboard Engine Serial No. : 05770924 ? R Dated : August 1982

Port V-Drive Information Tag:
Walker Gear Drive
Serial No. : 38653
Ratio: 1.46:1 Part # RV 20V
Casting Number: 20-060-C

Starboard V-Drive I.D. tag missing

Boat would need twin Mercury 470?s One opposite rotation plus inboard flywheel Housings.

Alternatively: A conversion kit to change one Walker Drive to convert standard Rotation to reverse, thus negating the need for an opposite rotation 470. Then only two Standard Rotation 470?s and flywheel housings would be needed.

The Transmission input shafts are roughly 28? center to center.

Is any of this available?

Hard to tell what its from, but its not important how it got there, you need to fix it just the same.

Since the boat is gutted and you'll need to do other glass work too, just put a nice patch on the inside and then do more of a cosmetic repair on the outside

I've been looking at some of these recently and running with trailer in what looks to be good usable condition they are running around 16k. I doubt you could get that one back together for that.

But, that really isn't the point of doing a restoration is it.

Watch you p and qs and you could get out for less with a boat you know. I rebuilt a Baylinner and have 2500 in the whole deal. Could have bought one for around that. But I have mew wood through out and the confidence that this boat will last for years. I also bought a 25 foot century. Looked great off a dealer lot. Soft spot in floor several wiring issues and who knows what else. Shes mine and now I can build it like I want it.
