Bravo 1 rotation

Newbie here to the forum and Bravo outdrives but not to boats. I just recently bought a 1988 Chaparral 2350SX with a single 454/Bravo 1 running gear. I just noticed that my outdrive has a counter clockwise prop on it (left turn prop) I have not put it in the water yet and not able to start it at the moment but does this make any sense? I know the Bravo is bi-directional but curious to why its set up to spin counter clockwise with a single engine set up? If it is going the wrong way for some reason, what needs to be done to change it to a right turn direction besides of course changing the prop.

Thanks

Re: Bravo 1 rotation

I don't know anything about Bravos (I have an Alpha), but is your prop stamped "LH" or do you have a "counter rotation" drive? Honestly, I don't know anything about Bravos, but I have a Counter Rotation Alpha drive with a RH Prop. For years I thought I had a LH prop. It took me a while to wrap my head around it, but this site has been a great resource of knowledge.

Someone will chime in soon and give you a more direct answer...:D

It is LH rotation prop. I have looked at some pics of other 2350sx's but the few I saw had a RH rotation prop. Does it really matter on the rotation in this type boat?

Re: Bravo 1 rotation

If it is the original drive, then the boat manufacturer was overstock on LH rotation drives, or it could have been replaced at some time in the boats life with the LH ratation drive. Either way, its not a big deal but will be harder to find some parts instock at dealers.

Thanks, I have all the manuals for the boat. I know that any Bravo 1 can spin in either direction its just a matter of repositioning the shifter cable per the manual. They don't have a specific Bravo 1 LH or RH outdrive. I was just unsure why mine was set up like that and if made a difference.

My guess is that somebody went cheap when buying a prop.
I've noticed that LH props are 30-50% cheaper on ebay than the same RH prop. Less demand for them.

That is probably the best guess for the set up. I am actually going to buy a 4 blade RH on ebay and reposition the shifter cable for RH rotation.

Thanks

OMG...my head just exploded:confused:

Bondo,

When the guy said "I just noticed that my outdrive has a counter clockwise prop on it (left turn prop)" I wanted to make sure he wasn't assuming that, just because his drive said "counter rotating)...like I did for years.

So, I have a counter rotating Alpha One (at least that's what it says on it), and a RH prop...what am I missing. Really, I don't want to mislead anyone...especially myself, 'cause that never ends well...

Ayuh,... If it's got a Clockwise prop on it,....
My best guess is,....
It's got the Wrong decals/ stampings,...
In other words,... The case has been recycled....
