Why do bowriders rot so quick compared to other designs?

i'm going against the current here...

i think rot comes from water and foam, not water and carpet. i haven't seen any decks rot from the top down, it's always from the bottom up.

compartments under the deck that have no drainage and are filled to the brim with foam rot decks. builders seem to think they can keep water out of areas when they can't, at least not over time. water gets into a place where it can't get out and bad stuff starts to happen.

wet carpet is no good but wet foam is worse, imo.

Good point!

It is difficult to keep a cover properly supported over the open bow sometimes and I bet problems start there as a cover gets inundated and rips or pushes down into the bow and starts leaking and the owner gives up after a couple of instances like that.

they are many good support poles for open bow boats, when not in use, plug out, bow high, so water drains, and everything dries out, open all hatches so air can circulate.

it is not going to stop rot, but sure will slow it down.

Ive read alot of interesting theroys here..ive owned top end bowriders and never have i had an issue with rot, fiest of all, water over the bow? never have that happened.you'd have to be in heavy seas for that to happen.spilled beverage..uh,no. dripping wet people sitting on the seats..not so.Its neglect that causes rot.

I agree TD, the main problem I see is boats even with properly supported covers with the bow down. Any rain that gets in stays in even if the plug is out, it adds up. I was driving around in different 'hoods recently and was really taken aback at all the boats in driveways with covers on but bow down towards the street. The trailer was level and the cover looked great but the driveway slant made sure the bow was down.

I have had 1 Cuddy and two bow riders, i think the real issue is either people letting them sit out, or covering them and then not checking them.

I had a bayliner with bow to stern carpet, and my starcraft has carpet ending at the bow walkthrough.

I check my boats after it rains and let them air out if the day is nice, never had a issue.

Its the people i think that cover the boats, then never check them till next spring, meanwhile the water is collecting on top and sagging the cover and condensation starts dripping in there, mildewing everything under the cover when the sun comes out.
