Thanks to this site I have gotten alot of advise. And I am having another issue that could use some suggestions.I took the boat out to the lake to test it out (other Issues) and noticed when I put the engine in reverse the boat does not move, also no grinding when I put it in reverse.Got it back home put the muffs on it,started it and put it in reverse the prop does spin but no grinding when put into gear,And with alittle humor I am not going to grab the prop to see if there is any resistance.Any help here my good fellows..

turn the engine off put it in reverse and see if it catches when you turn it by hand if I think it should spin in one direction but click and when you try to turn it the other way it should grab and not turn unless you turn it with enough force to turn over the engine lol

I can spin it, alittle hard but it does not turn the engine and it does not spin/click in the other direction.

check the linkage up by the powerhead where the cable hooks up make sure its moving all the way forward(if its like my 69, doesn't really matter just make sure it goes all the way in what ever direction it needs to) when you put it in reverse if not it could be it needs to be adjusted, the cable is bad, or your control crapped out if its a mercontrol I wouldn't be suprised if it did.

Hey I like those controls I will give that some serious thought thanks. My starter switch/choke and tilt trim has all been put into the dash.Mostly all new wiring the old was all brital faded. And since this boat is so old 1972 15ft Starcraft tri hull and who knows how many people have messed with it.I decicded to make it my own so I know what goes where and so on.Did away with alot of wiring that seemed to have no purpose whatsoever if you know what I mean.. Thanks:)

yeah I know exatly what you mean mine is a 69 18ft starcraft vhull that was my grandfathers that I have had to change all the wiring, repaint, new interior(got a great deal- 2 $300 a peice seats for 50 bucks for both :D), now I finally got the motor running decent and the floor needs to be completly redone which I know is going to be expensive because the fiberglass and resin to coat it is priced outrageously high you'd think its gold or something:redface:.

I love those controls the only problem I had is the throttle works its way back when you run WOT but I think its my fault because I got some grease on the friction pads for the lever but the shift stays in gear nice and even has a nutrle detent. I think it looks a lot better then the old mercontrol and works better too plus they're made of plastic so its never gonna corrode or the paint peel and start to look ugly
