Gear problem please help me

I have a sea ray alpha one 170 model 1999 my problem is when I put the gear on reverse it work good but when I try to bring it back to the neutral it seem lik some thing catch the shift and I cant get back to the neutral, this happend only if the beat is in the water but outside the lake it works fine maybe becouse in the water there is a load on the prop. can anybody help me on the please :confused:

Your lower shift cable needs replacing...and you're right. No load on the prop allows it to shift out of neutral.

The shift cable is the cable that runs from the transom up to the remot shift assy

In most cases, the lower shift cable runs from the drive (bell housing) to the switch plate mounted on the engine, then a separate upper shift cable from the switch plate to the remote.

I did change the shift gear but same problem still there I think there is adjustment I can do in the shift cable maybe this is the reson !!

Ayuh,.... What Shift Gear did you change,..??

Diagnostic procedures,+ Adjusting sequences are covered very well in the Manual which you can download from the Adults Only section at the top of this forum...
