Scuppers ? Seaswirl Center Console water on deck.

Are they supposed to keep water out and let water drain? Do they go bad? I have a Striper center console which you need to wear boots in all the time. Seems as though the scuppers are to low to the water line. With two guys in the back of the boat water enters the scuppers and fill the deck. Is it bad design or just bad scuppers?

Mine have the ball in them, a little water comes in but on the next wave it drains completely. You should hear the ball rolling back and forth.

Thanks for the replies. From what I have read it is a design flaw. My scuppers have no balls in them, something I will look into to upgrade. I'll try some plugs if I can find them as big as my scupper drain holes until then. Thank you again for the replies.

Even the ball valves won't keep the water out completely but I would imagine they are better than just open drains. My valves will let a couple of inches of water in if the boat is at rest with some weight in the back. Empty boat or moving boat and it all drains out.

The valves should close right up. Any water coming in and the balls should seal right up, if I'm lucky if I get a couple of cups of water and it drains on the next swell. Are your balls dirty are have a little water in them?

Way, It sounds like your boat is weighted down too much. The scuppers should be a couple of inches above the waterline. If a couple of guys stand at the transom, some water may come in, but it would be confined to the immediate transom area.

So, is your boat waterlogged? Is the motor under the HP (and weight) limit? Do you have extra gear in the transom? Is the bilge pump working?
