Do I need a New Trolling Motor

I don't want to spend $800 just for this, BUT no matter what I do, my 12/24 Motorguide 55lb thrust trolling motor is a dog at the lake.

It happened suddenly, or so it seems, but only after I was messing with the wiring.

I have two sets of wires, two black and two read. I operate at two speeds, but the 24 volt speed is weak once on the water. I'm fairly certain I have the wiring correct, and I've experimented just to be sure.

Did I blow fry circuit? Is there something about those fused connectors at the battery? Do these things really go bad with such limited use--mine has been used about 30 times.

Any help would be appreciated. The local shops have really not been helpful. I don't think anyone services these locally, or cares to.

So what were you doing when you were "messing with the wiring". The motor requires 24 volts to operate efficiently. If you "messed" with the wiring and the motor is only getting 12 volts on the 24 volt setting, the motor certainly will be doggy. Set the switches for 24 volts and measure the voltage at the plug. Red to black = 24 volts. Orange to black + 12 volts. I get the impression the motor is seeing only 12 volts regardless what setting you have selected. Those are not switches at the battery POS post. They are circuit breakers. If one of them is tripping because it has deteriorated, the motor will see only 12 volts. If one of the batteries is bad the motor will see only 12 volts.
