Hey folks,
I'm the excited new owner of a leftover Copper/White 2008 Monterey 180FS with Volvo Driven 4.3.
Over the last few years my neighbor and I have hit the Deleware River for skiing, wakeboarding, fun...but this last year my neighbor had twins...and we hit the river once.
So, I made a good bonus at work and decided to go looking for a fast way to spend it. A boat seemed the perfect answer.
So, I started looking. My only real stipulation at the start was that our Chevy Equinox would be able to tow it. That meant an 18 footer, as the max rating for that SUV is 3500.
At first I was going to keep it under $8k and get something used.
That quickly escalated into $15k and used, and hell, that didn't make much sense when for $18k a guy could get a new boat with a warranty.
So, I talked to some folks and looked at boats by Larson, Bayliner, etc...
Then, I found a fellow who owns a dealership with a LARGE service center in eastern PA who had a leftover 08 Monterey. I was in love. It had the engine I wanted, I liked the color, the stereo was upgraded and it had a ton of cup holders.
Anyway, he ordered me a Load Rite with disk brakes, which make me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside, as the boat weighs as much as the tow vehicle, I think. $18.5k later, the boat is mine...kind of.
Part of the deal was that the boat would be shrink-wrapped and stored at his shop until spring, at which time he's going to prep it and file the warranty papers...which seems like a sweet little additional to me.
Anyway, the only issue I've had with Monterey seems to be that there is very little info online. If you want reviews of Larson or Sea Ray, they seem to be there aplenty...but Monterey, not so much (especially not on the lil fella I got).
So...I wanted to share my pride and say hello!
