Hey folks,

I'm the excited new owner of a leftover Copper/White 2008 Monterey 180FS with Volvo Driven 4.3.

Over the last few years my neighbor and I have hit the Deleware River for skiing, wakeboarding, fun...but this last year my neighbor had twins...and we hit the river once.

So, I made a good bonus at work and decided to go looking for a fast way to spend it. A boat seemed the perfect answer. ;)

So, I started looking. My only real stipulation at the start was that our Chevy Equinox would be able to tow it. That meant an 18 footer, as the max rating for that SUV is 3500.

At first I was going to keep it under $8k and get something used.

That quickly escalated into $15k and used, and hell, that didn't make much sense when for $18k a guy could get a new boat with a warranty.

So, I talked to some folks and looked at boats by Larson, Bayliner, etc...

Then, I found a fellow who owns a dealership with a LARGE service center in eastern PA who had a leftover 08 Monterey. I was in love. It had the engine I wanted, I liked the color, the stereo was upgraded and it had a ton of cup holders. ;)

Anyway, he ordered me a Load Rite with disk brakes, which make me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside, as the boat weighs as much as the tow vehicle, I think. $18.5k later, the boat is mine...kind of.

Part of the deal was that the boat would be shrink-wrapped and stored at his shop until spring, at which time he's going to prep it and file the warranty papers...which seems like a sweet little additional to me.

Anyway, the only issue I've had with Monterey seems to be that there is very little info online. If you want reviews of Larson or Sea Ray, they seem to be there aplenty...but Monterey, not so much (especially not on the lil fella I got).

So...I wanted to share my pride and say hello! :)

Welcome aboard! From what I have seen I think that you will enjoy that monterey!!

Do some searching on here and you may find some more info about them. That should be a nice power plant for that boat too! Sounds like a lot of fun!

Ahoy, welcome aboard.

I think you will love your new boat. Don't be suprised if in a few years you find yourself looking at bigger boats:rolleyes:.

I had an 18' Rinker with the 4.3 Merc. Pushed that boat right along. Plenty of power for watersports and speed when you want it.

If you haven't already, enroll in a safe boating course before boating season.

And to echo the above, we love pictures.:p

Well, funny you should mention pictures. The dealer sent me some pictures, which I'm going to post, but when we actually drove the 2 hr trip to see the boat, I forgot a camera...and the camera I actually had at the time I borrowed specifically to take pictures of the boat. A nice Digital SLR. Still kicking myself for that, as pictures are darn near all I have to tide me over until April or so when I actually get the boat.

But here's the brochure picture...and the boat is this same color, just sans the additional swim deck:

...and here's some pictures of the actual boat:

That's all I've got. :)

PS - Yeah, in NJ it's law that you have to take the safety course.

I have been in a few Monterrey's, nice boats in my opinion. That size boat will do great with the engine you got. Congrats.

Ha. Yeah, I was pretty happy. The MSRP was over $33k, with the Sirius radio, depth gauge and engine upgrade...plus he threw in a '10 Loadrite with brakes.

It just feels so much like putting something on layaway...you know, you do tons of research, you look at all sorts of things, you talk about it, drink beer over it, and finally decide to buy it...and then i don't even get to take it home for like 6 months. ;)

I hope so! I probably would have been happy with the 3.0, but I think it'll be nice to have a good top speed while also being able to pull skiers out of the water.

Congrats on the new boat. Looks like a real nice one and sounds like a great deal. I bought my new boat in August and have been out every weekend with the admiral since and am having a great time. Too bad you have to wait until spring for the maiden voyage but spring will be here before you know it! Good luck and here's hoping time flies......

Nice find and nice buy. You probably saved a few thousand $ by buying it now instead of waiting til spring. I could not imagine wating that long to go out though. I'm sure it will be worth it when you finally do get out.

Your gonna have so much fun! 4.3 is gonna fly! Beautiful boat, and a great deal! You said it's copper like the first pic? It almost looks red in the pictures below that.

I feel your pain! I just brought home my new Hurricane last week, and still have yet to get her wet! I hope this weekend... If not it's getting way to cold...

First of all there are many, many "need more power" threads from 3.0 owners. The difference in fuel will amount to less than $10 a day, and that's not near what all of the other costs are. Maybe we are talking the difference between 4 and 5 MPG, but not 11 and 30 like you might be thinking with a truck/car . . . Welcome aboard and awesome find!!!

Re: First Post, First Boat...Hello!

Welcome to the Monterey Club! I recently picked up a 1995 Montura 210 5.7L Merc.
So far we really, really like it. Seems to be a very well built boat. You'll be happy you didn't go with the 3.0. First off, they are everywhere, and second if you ever go out with some friends on the boat and want to pull up a wakeboard or a slalom skier..you'll be happy you have the 4.3. We have a 5.7 and almost a 21' boat and I can go out for a day on the lake for 20 bucks.

Nice find and great deal!

Nice to hear! I'm glad I didn't get the 3.0 as well. I was really mainly worried about getting some of my chubby slalom-skiing friends out of the water.

Wakeboarding, I think I could get up behind a paddle boat...that really doesn't take any horsies at all...but you get awful tired being dragged thru the water with a slalom ski. ;)

Re: First Post, First Boat...Hello!

Really nice boat. I bought, in 2007, my 1998 Monterey 276, at about the same time of year and it went into storage as soon as the paperwork was done. Couldn't wait until April. Longest wait of my life - but the anticipation is great. Lot's of time to plan the first big boat trip - take boating courses, buy extra add ons.
Monterey is a great solid boat - but not a lot in my area either - there is only two others in my marina -
