In the manual it says that it can not be flush mounted into a panel due to the internal gps antenna.

I was thinking of trying it anyway.

Anyone have this one or another that has an internal antenna and do that?

What kind of boat?

I had a 522 and now have an HDS-7, but I prefer them mounted up where I can see them while fishing at the back of the boat, so I never tried.

Its a 24' Grady. I have a lockalbe consol on top of the dash. (most gradys I have seen have this) I want to put it in there. I would be able to see it from the back when the cover is open.

I have a Lowrance combo unit on my 280SS, and it is on top of the dash but under the windshield and under the bimini top and the GPS works. I'm not sure if it would shoot through the dash or not, but maybe you could wire up power and just place it in that lockbox you have and see if it will? At least that's what I would do....

Just got the boat back from the doctor, Thats what I am planning on trying. But due to the declining weather in the north east it may wait till next year.
