i recently was out on the lake full power on plane when my alarm started to sound and Beep beep beep beep etc.....I then powered down and did a little survey realizing my 2 cycle oil tank was low.......not sure if this was the problem, it still had say 1/4 or less oil in the tank, but not empty......i filled up the tank with all the oil i had available which now put it to 1/2.....the alarm is still beep beep beep beeping....i gently drove back to dock and trailered boat home,.....after i got it there i hooked up the water flush kit started the motor to see if there was any change in alarm....it then seemed to go to an even higher pitch beep beep beep.....im now writing this to get some input if any ones got any....thanx

I hope you're lucky. When you don't know if it's getting oil from the injection system, don't even start the engine without mixing oil with the gas in the main tank. It won't do serious damage with double oil, but no oil does real damage fast.

BTW, all that information is in your owner's manual. If you don't have one, get one.

Hopefully, the oil level sensor in the tank failed.

Re: 1995 mercury 115 hp 2stroke oil injector alarm issues

I just bought a 1987 vintage 90hp Merc and I've only had it out one time so far, for maybe 10 minutes. Seems to run fine. But....

However, for some reason I have no alarm sound at all (I'm a newbie, and never noticed when I bought the boat) and I am worried that I have no way of knowing if I'm injecting oil or not. For that matter, since I have no alarm I have no way of knowing if I overheat, or if there is lack of oil. My understanding (thanks to this forum) is that a steady beep= overheat, and a beep beep beep= low oil. (My oil tank is full)

When I turn the ignition on, I should hear the alarm - is that correct? Until I get the alarm properly hooked up, I think I will carry some 2-stroke oil in the boat, just in case, and mix it into the gas if I have to. j_martin's comment made me think.

So, question: is there a visual way to check that my motor is getting enough oil into the carbs? Sounds? Smoke?

When you turn the key on you should get one long beep indicating that the alarm is working correctly. There are situations where certain modifications to the charging system will cause you to not get a test beep but that's a different subject.

The procedure for testing the oil pump is in the manual. You need to use a separte fuel source of mixed gas when performing this procedure, just as John said.

The procedure is to disconnect the oil pump outlet side and place a clear piece of tubing on the port. Place the open end into a measuring device capable of mesuring 0 to 25 ml at least. Run the engine for 15 minutes and you should have accumulated 25ml of oil in the measuring cup if the pump is working correctly. Please get the manual and verify the correct output ammount for your engine. These numbers are correct for a 100hp Merc/Mariner when a 3/8" fuel pump is used but a 5/16 might be different .

For the originator of this post, remove and drain your oil tank. Remove the float sensor from the tank, clean it and test it by activating it. It's just a switch so in one position it will cause the alarm in the other it won't. If after cleaning it functions correctly then re-install it and you're good to go. If not, replace it.

Here's a link to the parts page for your engines oil tank:

CABASSFISHER, You can test the low oil sensor by disconnecting the 2 light blue wires going from the oil tank to the alarm module. If the alarm quits when they are unplugged the sensor in the oil tank is bad. If it's still going off disconnect the tan or tan/blue wire going to the alarm module. If it stops the engine temperature sensor is bad. If it's still going off the alarm module is bad.
