Thank you.

NO. If you run your motor out of fuel you run the risk of doing damage to your motor, because you are also running it out of oil. You would not want to run your car out of oil and you don't want do that to your outboard either. Better to to drain the fuel from the carbs if you can or mix fuel stabilizer with your fuel and run the motor on a flushing unit until the stabilized fuel has filled the bowls.

You should also change the lower unit oil to ensure there is no water in there to freeze. Also a good idea to take out the plugs, fog the cylinders, then replace the plugs.

Read this link on winterizing. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158078 It will explain better than I can.

I like leaving the fuel in. That way you don't have to worry about condensation/corrosion and plugging up the carbs when you run it next spring. Never drained carbs throughout the years and never had any problems... Like was said, run a stabilizer through your fuel system...

Add stabiliser to the fuel, run long enough to get the stabilised fuel through the system, fog motor till it cuts out, change lower unit oil, leave outboard vertical to drain, clean boat out, add a couple of trays of mothballs inside, add some downy sheets inside, put gauze over the plug hole, cover up and wait for spring !!!!

Mine has (had) a VRO pump and ran great until I ran the gas out of it. I think I destroyed the pump by doing that because it never ran the same again, and I had to convert to 50:1 mix. So if it has one of those, take a lesson form my stupidity and don't do that.

Listen to these guys on here. I've been here a week and have learned a TON by just lurking.
