Hello guys am a newbie here,I hope am posting in the right section. I recently purchase a 1972 55 hp chrysler model # 559hd. I did not have fire to one plug so I removed the fly wheel cleaned and set the points to .020 it got spark and fired up only after I sprayed a couple of shots of 50-1 into the carb.
She ran about 3 sec and shut down. it will do that every time. I did want it to run until I check other things out .the sediment bowl fills up after a few pumps of the new bulb all hose's and clamps has been replaced along with the tank. new plugs L82c champs. I also rebuild the fuel pump thanks to napa.
my question is this. I had to cut the end off the hose and bulb set to attach it to the male fitting on the carb. is there a special female adapter or somthing for a chrysler or is this okay? Also after droping the lower end unit I notice there was no water tube! Do anybody have any pics on how this one looks or a part # any info would be helpful. Oils nice and blue green in the lower unit I just have not figured out how to get these four @#$%^ screws out of the water pump housing.

Hi noticed you didn't get a reply. Mine is a 68 55 hp. Bought a book called "Cheap Outboards" by Max E. Warzyniak IIIn he hates Chrylser motors but gave enough info for me to handle almost anything needed. Check out www.duckworksmagazine.com

You can get it for free

There should be a 3/8 brass water tube running from the pump to the bottom of the block. It is held against the block with a tight rubber grommet. If your engine was a 15 inch shaft modified to 20 inch (factory or not) there would be an extension held by four bolts upper and lower. there should be a 5 inch tube that slips over the short water tube.

Getting the bolts out is always a pain, especially if the engine was used in salt. If they are the slotted flat head, buy an impact screwdriver from the tool store.

If I remember correctly, the screws from that water pump have bosses and threads that extend all the way through the casting. SO; If you snap the screws and need to drill them out, there is room for new bolts and nuts.

Uhhh! fuel hose and bulb are marked "Tank" with an arrow. The fuel hose should attach to the fuel pump at the back of the engine. Inlet should be a thiner bent brass fitting near the glass bowl and the outlet should be a thicker screw in 90 degree fitting off the small pump chamber. A fuel line should run from there to the carb. There should be two short rubber hoses on the top of the pump for impulses from the crankcase.
