I recently had the heads off on my 110hp. I had heads resurfaced and re installed with new gaskets and torqued to specs. They leak!!!!! Should I try to use some sort of sealant or RTV?? Someone told me I could try to stack up 2 gaskets and it might seal. give me some input please.

Something's clearly wrong, but not too obvious. Are the heads swapped side to side? Did you clean up the block mating surfaces? Heads install dry, with no sealer.

No heads are not swaped. Yes I throughly cleaned all surfaces. I don't want to think the block is warped. The previous owner over heated it, but installed new gaskets and it lasted untill now. He also used some sort of sealant or RTV. I removed the heads to clean up the water jackets. The engine has lived in salt water most of its life.

Check the heads and block for flatness. The heads can be checked on a piece of thick plate glass. The block with a machinists metal straight edge. Both need to be flat within .001" to .002" MAX or sealing will be problematic. This is fairly common with motors that have been overheated, although in most cases the block is OK.

Thanks I'll try that.

Water was leaking. Not into the cylinder but out inbetween the block and head.

That certainly is unusual to say the least. How much did they mill off the heads? Any chance the bolts are bottoming out before the gaskets are squeezed? Or perhaps the unthreaded shank of the bolt is longer than the thickness of the head? Just a guess that is as good as any, I reckon.

Haven't check lenght of bolts I'll look at that this weekend when I pull the heads back off.

You might want to chase the threads in the block and the bolts, dont take much to throw off the torque,I always sprayed fogging oil on the bolts before installing,be sure there is no dirt etc.at bottom of boltholes,

Stacking 2 flat BRP/OMC gaskets won't work. It will work with the metal, stamped metal gaskets like the ones for a Chevy.

If you're using OE gaskets or even some of the better quality aftermarket gaskets and using a spray sealer they will leak externally. If you're using the OE gaskets try using no sealer or only BRP's Gasket Sealer (gasket sealer w/brush in the lid - not Adhesive M).

The 1977 V4 service manual recommends OMC gasket sealer on their head gaskets that did not say: "use no sealer." As Hadley mentioned, using some OMC sealing componund 317201 may probably help your situation. It's worth a try.
