I just purchased this boat for $200.00 dollars and have no information on it.
It says that its a Citation 170 xl. 3.0 mercruiser 130hp.

I cleaned all the debri out and cut the floor out to see if I wanted to even tackle this project.

So if anyone has any info or better yet pics of what this boat is suppose to look like, please post.:D

And yes this is my first post and first boat.Sorry for the poor pics, its my cell and its raining.:(

Wow that one is quite a project. I will say that the Mercruiser 3.0 is a proven and reliable powerplant with excellent parts support. As for the hull, I have heard of Citation but have no other info. Grab a shovel and a grinder and get to work :) Head on down to the restoration section to see what you're in for. Welcome to iboats!

I don't mind a project but that hull looks like scrap yard bait

It just needs a good bath! I think ?! or hope:eek:. After I remove the engine I will pressure wash it and see. It has one rotten stringer.
My goal is not to spend alot of money.I saved the fiberglass that covered the rotten plywood so I can reuse it to save cost.
I hope to just get the head redone and change the fluids on the engine.
We will see.

You should have see it before I took the shovel to it.The interior was still in it, But I used that to mulch around the plants!

Based on your initial photo this is an absolute project boat. I moved the thread to restoration. It really does not matter what it looked like befor....what matters is a nice photo of what it looks like when it's done.

ezmobee said it and I will agree the 3.0 mercruiser is a great power combo and that with the trailer alone will get you a return on the money you spent.

Please explain how you plan to re-use the fiberglass?

I would spend time and read the restoration section...... between your statement of rotten plywood and one stringer....that may be the tip of the iceberg.

Re: Anyone have any info on this boat?

Thanks for all the responses.
The fiberglass peeled away from the rotten floor. I cut the floor into large pieces for easy reconstruction. I am thinking that I can cut some plywood(pt),coat it with epoxy and the lay it on the floor of the boat. Then take the sheets of old fiberglass and lay the over the top where they originally were and glass over the saw cuts. Make any sense?

Most of the interior will have to be fabricated such as the side panel and rear seats. I have the driver and passenger seats that need to be upolstered.
I know its alot of work but shouldnt be much money wise.

I will try to take pics as I go,although this is a slow winter project.

My passion is stand up jetskis.

Leave Blank,
Welcome.
If you have the motor number or the out drive number we can get some information for you like the year of the boat or at least the info on the engine.
The boat looks like it's worth saving.
I can't see any reason to use the old fiberglass at all. I think it would create more problems then it's worth. I don't think you would get a very good bond if any to the new deck. Just my opinion.
Good luck

Re: 1987 Citation 170xl Restoration

Got the stringer repaired/glassed and glassed the ski locker. I had some old floor epoxy from an old job left over so the ski locker became blue.
I decided to glass in some braces to support the floor and hull.
Installed polystyrene in the cavities for flotation and sound deading.
Floor is in and reinstalled the old fiberglass and then glassed the seams.(pics coming)

The head is off to the machine shop for inspection. The cylinder wall looked great considering the 12 or so years of non use.

Going to put a full flake epoxy on the floor once it quits raining.

So far I have $ 564.31 toatal including head gasket kit, fuel filters and thermostat.

Still need head job, belt, oil and filter then interior reconstuction.

Goal is $1000.00 total.

Re: 1987 Citation 170xl Restoration

Just finished putting down my full flake epoxy over the floor. Its brown and burgandy flakes. I was going for the burgandy to match the stripe on the boat.

It was all left over from a previous epoxy job.:D. Now I wont have to worry about cleaning the red clay off the carpet!
