I have a 2000 Mercury (made by Tohatsu) 5 HP 2 Cycle motor. I am trying to drop teh lower unit to change the impellor. When I first tried to drop teh lower unit I got it down a few inches or so and then realized I needed to disconnect the **** shaft. After disconnecting the shift shaft I was able to pull the lower unit about a foot down, but it won't come out any further, and it won't go back in.
Surely the drive shaft is down inside the main shaft, but what could it be binding on? I am using a Clydes manual along with a Tohatsu parts manual but I can't identify anything that would prevent the lower unit and drive shaft from coming out.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
