have 19' wellcraft 186 eclipse io. know nothing about replacing stringers and floor.have removed rotten floor that was covered in blue carpet. underneath is rotten 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch plywood partitioned in foam filled compartments that are about 8-12 inches high. very little fiberglass on plywood. i am ready to remove stringers but am worried about having to duplicate exact layout of plywood. Do I have to or can I try to improve what was obviously a poor design? i can use all the help i can get!

Re: replace stringers and floor

Two years ago I replaced complete floor and foam in my 1984, 180 American ( Wellcraft). My stingers were encased in woven fiberglass and showed no signs of rot. I checked by partially driving a 8 penny nail in different areas. Are you SURE your stringers are bad? I would think if you start removing stringers you may want to replace a few at a time then move on to the next one. If you remove them all at the same time your hull may get bowed do to lack of support. ( I've never replaced strings so I don't know this for sure.) Just a thought.
