I winterized as I usually do and my new neighbor tells me I need to drain my intermediate shaft on my 120 Mercruiser. I have never done it before and think he may be full of it. Can anyone tell me what he is talking about?
Not familiar with the term "intermediate shaft" in Mercruiser.Maybe you can download the manual from the adults section and show it to him .Need some clarification.
Like Bt Doc, I've never heard the term "intermediate shaft" on a Merc either. And I would hate to try and explain what your new neighbor is referring to. He may be talking about something completely different.
Maybe he is referring to greasing the gimbal bearing? The OMC stringer has a intermediate housing that holds oil. Maybe he is thinking of something else.
I tried telling him I don't have one but he insisted I do. He said that he knows someone that cracked one in the winter because they didn't drain it. Maybe it is something on an outboard, that is what he has. He is an older guy and was a mechanic all his life so I didn't try to argue with him.
You are going to have to if you ever want to know what he is talking about. He may just go to your boat and say,...... Oops, sorry, thought you had an outboard or a different kind of drive.
