Re: Bildge blower recomadations

i don't even know if there is such a thing, but one with a continues duty motor would be cool. i know i find myself leaving mine on after start up. i just forget it's on and can't hear it over the engine. had me one of them inline blowers in my last boat. didn't seem to hip to me for the abuse i give it by leaving it on (wore it out). better on than off though. better to error on the safe side and replace blowers more frequently than i should have to... don't think it had a continues duty motor. probably a attwood. seems like a pretty common R&R item to me..

I replaced an old Attwood 3" blower with a Detmar and the new one flows a lot more air, bigger fan housing. The price wasn't bad either, less than $20.

I'm facing the same issue. Looks like the choices are less expensive ($30) in-line style blowers like the units pictured above, or the more expensive ($150)squirrel cage blowers like this one.

I'm thinking the in-line unit will take less space, move just as much air, won't rust, and be less expensive overall.

I also use an in-line blower and when it finally goes I will replace with the same, I put my hand at the air exhaust out and it definitly blows alot of air.
I'm happy with it.

....I, too, replaced a rusty, noisey and failure-prone squirrel cage blower with two (2) in-line blowers. [ The second is an independently switched blower to supply additional cool air TO the doghouse in the heat of summer (really helps vapor-lock, hot starting and regulating the doghouse heat)].

My in-line blowers are isolated-mounted and Soooo quiet that I installed lighted switches for them. Even then, on especially bright days I find myself placing a hand over the louvers to see if I left one on !!

The newer in-lines are more compact, quieter, corrosion-proof and produce greater cfm's than the larger, rust-prone and more noisey squirrel cage blowers.

i've found the reverse to be true. i like my squirrel cage blower... + it's what i need for my application..

reckon mines gong on 2 years old now. it's quite and dependable. i use it all the time too. including forgetting to turn it off once in a while too...

mine's priced at $60 right now from aristocraft. looks like the one in the above pic..
