I was dropping the leg today before the frost hits and forgot to untie the leg before lowering it. I didn't figure out the problem till it was too late:mad:

It's a 74 glastron v-174 bayflite with the original 120hp mercruiser and leg. What is involved in replacing the seal in the hydraulic ram and does anyone know the part#?

There is hydraulic fluid pissing out everywhere and the leg won't go down anymore.

Simply unbolt the rams and lower the drive

Hopefully your rams are newer than '74 because they can be a real pain to get apart if corroded...Its usually cheaper for my customers to just buy new ones. 'nutcase

how to bleed power trim on 74 glastron w/120 mercruiser

how to bleed power trim on 74 glastron w/120 mercruiser

Yes they are original and there was a pin hole through the cylinder in the threads under the end cap!!! It looks like my jb weld repair has worked hah hah. My only issue is how bleed the system as when I tried the trim it just made noise and there was no movement at all! I hope it's because of air and not because I burnt out the pump or something.

Anyone know how to bleed this system out?

top off the fluid, run the tilt full up and full down a few times, check the level and top off as necessary. Basically self bleeding.

so you're saying that even though one ram is completely empty it should use bleed itself by filling it up? SOunds to good to be true but I'll try it. What do you use guys use for the fluid?

use what's already in the system. If it's red in color then it should be standard dextron ATF. If it's brownish/clear, then it should be power tilt and trim fluid.

we will soon see my friend. I figured I'd give it a shot. If it doesn't work all it cost me was a little time and a few beers;)
