I have a 1985 Johnson 90 HP VPRO. I let my brother inlaw change my gear oil. He used Quick Silver High Performance. I was told by the macanic I bought the motor from to only use Johson Or Quick Silver non syntetic fuel and gear oil. The oil he put in is green and the gear oil I use is Quick Silver Premium is Yellow. Is it Ok to use Quick Silver High Performance the green stuff or should I change it back to the yellow?

It is okay to use any oil designated as outboard gear oil.

Your engine will not blow up because you didn't spend the most possible on the gearcase oil.

I use the green and have had no issuse with it. Its good stuff. And to my nose it doesn't smell quite as bad.
